2024 2nd Annual Michael McNaughton Ban Memorial Alumni Regatta

On Saturday, September 21, 2024, the NA rowing community gathered at Moraine State Park for the 2nd Annual Michael McNaughton Ban Alumni Race. The event brought together both current and past rowers for a day filled with competitive racing and heartfelt memories.

The races featured mixed lineups competing in 2x, 4x, 8+, and 4+ shells. Seventeen alumni eagerly jumped back into boats to compete, while many more gathered onshore with families and current rowers to cheer on the action. The event was not just about the races but also a time for reminiscing and reconnecting with old friends.

The day’s racing consisted of two heats, with rowers progressing to either the A or B final. Following the races, participants, along with their families and supporters, enjoyed a picnic together, fostering a true sense of community.

The highlight of the day was the presentation of the Michael McNaughton Ban Alumni Trophy to the winning crew, who rowed in the Michael McNaughton Ban ’04 4x shell. The victorious lineup included Chris Ban ‘01, Ben LeDonne ‘99, Alex Repinski ‘25, and Layton Wright ‘25.

We are already looking forward to next year’s event and encourage all alumni to stay connected with us at na.row.info@gmail.com! Please contact us and follow the team on social media for updates on future alumni events, or sign up for our newsletter to stay connected.

2023 Michael McNaughton Ban Memorial Alumni Regatta

On Saturday, September 16th generations of the NA Rowing community gathered at Moraine State Park to row in mixed line ups and reminisce about their experiences and achievements as NA Tigers. All said, 26 alumni jumped back into  racing shells and even more stayed on land with families and current rowers to cheer on their teammates.

The day started with two heats and progression to an A and B Final. The morning wrapped with a picnic and presentation of the Micheal McNaughton Ban Alumni trophy to the day's winners, who rowed in the Michael McNaughton Ban ‘04 Quad (which was christened in fall 2022). The line-up was composed of Christopher Ban ‘01, Jordan Ellis ‘04,  Bill Francis ‘07, and Anthony Bertucci ‘25.

Alumni gathered again later in the evening for dinner and to honor Class of ‘04 Grad Michael McNaughton Ban whose legacy as a fierce competitor, role model, brother, and scholar of the sport the team, in conjunction with the Ban family, is working to memorialize in the form of the Michael McNaughton Ban Memorial Boathouse.

NA Rowing board, athletes, and coaches would like to extend our sincere thanks to the community of supporters who came out and have contributed from near and far toward this event and the boathouse effort. It is humbling and empowering to know this team and its legacy are so loved and supported. A special thank is due to Beth Ober, Marion Francis, and the entire Ban family for their support and investment. We are honored to be able to reflect on Micheal daily and to have you all as members of our team.

NARA looks forward to hosting the event again next year and encourages alumni to complete the contact registration link, to email na.row.info@gmail.com, and to follow the team on social media to stay in the know about Alumni happenings.
