On a bitter cold day complete with snow flurries, the NA Tiger Middle School Dev Team took to the Allegheny River along side Three Rivers Rowing, Steel City, Central Catholic and Fox Chapel to race in the inaugural Dylan Lukas Trophy, named in honor of the TRRA middle school coach and presented by Central Catholic Crew.

After a safety meeting, the crews lined up 8 boats across in a combinations of 8s and Quads to race from the 16th Street Bridge to the tip of Herrs Island under the watchful eyes of parents, coaches, and family. The field had a hard start with a crab causing two boats to clash oars, but after clearing, all teams pushed hard to the line with final times posted between 6:09 and 8:22. The Tigers were fortunate enough to have a clean start and took an early and strong lead at a confident rate. Finishing second was Steel Cities 4x & in 3rd was Central Catholic’s 8+. The NA line up was a mix of 7th & 8th graders, Greta Edfors, Matthew Collins, Maxx Buffat, Jamie Hamed, Nils Arteel, Max Grovich, Ethan Murick Xavier Millazzo & at the helm was coxswain Tai Luangkesorn,

NARA would like to thank all the local coaches who made the event possible, especially Jay Hammond of Central and Dylan Lukas of TRRA without whom the event would not have happened, and looks forward to racing to defend the cup again next fall!
